Quarterfinal 3 : Argentina - Belgium

Argentina scored in the 8th minute, with Gonzalo Higuain smashing a right-footed volley into the left hand side of the goal in a highlight reel shot.  The goal was assisted by Angel Di Maria and was helped by a deflection from a defender on the pass.  Di Maria then left the game in the 33rd minute with a thigh injury.   Argentina had to hold the lead for 82+ minutes after taking the early lead, but were up to the task, allowing Belgium only 4 shots on goal for the game.

Quarterfinal 2 : Brazil - Colombia

Brazil won the game, but lost their young phenom, Neymar, to an injury late in the game.  Brazil went ahead in the 7th minute on a goal from Thiago Silva, assisted by Neymar.  They will also lose Silva, the Brazil captian, for the next game when he got another yellow card in the 64th minute.  David Luiz scored on a free kick to put Brazil up 2-0.   Brazil's goalie, Julio Cesar, conceded a penalty to Colombia in the 77th minute which was converted by Colombia's young phenom, James Rodrigues, in the 80th minute.   Neymar was kneed in the back by Colombia's Zuniga in the 88th minute.  Turned out he broke at least one vertebre in his back and will be out for the rest of the World Cup.

Quarterfinal 1 : France - Germany

This game was the first one where possession split exactly 50-50.   While France seemed to have a few more good chances on goal, Neuer was up to the task, keeping France out of the goal.  Germany's Hummels scored in the 13th minute, chipping the French goalie with a header that went off the underside of the crossbar and in.  Assist to Toni Kroos.

Round of 16 Day Four

Argentina-Switzerland 1-0 : Messi with a run up the middle in overtime, passes to Di Maria for the goal  

Belgium-United States 2-1 : Tim Howard made 16 saves in this overtime game with goals coming from Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne in the 93rd minute and Romelu Lokaku in the 105th.  Julian Green scored for the USA in the 107th minute on a great vision shot, a candidate for goal of the WC.
